Frequently Asked Questions
-
Most pieces are built to order. I occasionally have a small selection of ready-made furniture and smaller handcrafted goods available for purchase. If you're looking for something specific, I'd be happy to discuss a custom commission.

Oak Moon Woodworking is based in central Maryland and serves clients throughout the Baltimore–Washington region. I also ship many smaller pieces throughout the United States.

The easiest way to get started is to fill out an inquiry form online. From there, I will reach out to schedule a conversation about your space, needs, and aesthetic. I'll develop a design, finalize dimensions and materials, provide a quote, and begin construction once the design is approved and a deposit is received. Throughout the build, you'll receive updates as your piece takes shape. Finally, we will arrange a time for delivery, or finalize the shipping details for customers outside of the region.
-
The initial consultation is complimentary. For larger or more complex projects, a design fee may be required before producing detailed drawings. If you move forward with the project, that fee is credited toward the final cost.
-
A 30% deposit reserves your place in the production schedule and allows materials to be purchased. The remaining balance is typically due before delivery or installation.
-
Lead times vary depending on the complexity of the project and the current schedule. Most custom furniture projects take between 5 and 10 weeks once construction begins, while larger built-ins may require additional time.
-
Wherever possible I use local hardwood species sourced from sustainable forestry ecosystems. I also frequently incorporate “reclaimed materials”, which most often come from buildings torn down in the region. The wood species I work with most frequently are white oak, red oak, walnut, cherry, and hard maple. Other species are available on request.
-
Often, yes. While an exact match isn't always possible due to the natural variation in wood, I can usually match dimensions, proportions, finishes, and overall style so the new piece feels at home in your space.
-
Yes. Local delivery and installation are available throughout Maryland and the greater Baltimore–Washington area and are incorporated into the sales price. Shipping outside of the area is a flat rate based on the size and weight of the piece being shipped.
-
Absolutely. Whether you have detailed drawings or simply a few inspiration images, they provide an excellent starting point. I'll refine the design into a piece that's both functional and uniquely yours.
